Mallorca is an obviously “cycle-friendly” location – Amateurs and Pros have been coming here for decades. The local community are well aware of the valuable business that cycling brings to their shores and make little issue of giving right of way to the many cycling groups that descend upon the roads, across the island, each season; and for the leisure cyclists, there is an extensive, network of cycle lanes – safely segregated from vehicle traffic.
The island offers an incredible variety of both leisurely and demanding rides, making it a popular destination for amateur and professional cyclists alike – thousands arrive every year to travel Mallorca’s highways and byways on two wheels. Most notably, the island is a favourite location for Team Sky for their winter training camps and many of the other pro-tour, road racing teams come to Mallorca too, to take advantage of the challenging landscape and the warm, dry weather.
The dramatic terrain of the Tramuntana mountains provides the perfect cycling playground for anyone wanting to test their strength and endurance in the saddle.
If you’re more of a leisure cyclist though, don’t fret! There are plenty of magnificent, flatter, rolling routes through picturesque olive groves and orchards, away from the more dramatic climbs of the western coast. Whatever your level of abiity, the ideal ride is waiting for you in Mallorca!
The cycling season begins in February, runs through until the start of June and opens again for mid-September to late October. The hottest months on the island are June, July & August; so this is our “OFF-Season” at Stephen Roche Cycling, as the high summer sun is too intense for daily guided cycling for most people. If you do decide to come at this time though, then do contact us about our Private Guided Rides and off season holiday packages.
